How NoBordersMagazine turned their print materials into user-friendly mobile guides

You know how they say that print is dead? This story is the living proof that printed & online content can work together, if you have the right partner. Here’s how Triptale and NoBordersMagazine cooperated easily to create a mobile guide for our customers.

NoBordersMagazine.org is an Italian online travel magazine with a passion for analog content: photos, vintage maps, old-fashioned postcards, and Guide Piccole (literally “small guides”); free, printable & foldable city guides written and illustrated with photos and words by locals. They have published them for Milan, Venice, Madrid, New York, Bergamo and Naples.

A digital magazine and city guide

With growing popularity for the magazine, People started asking for a digital version. With the digital age and technological revolution, if you are not providing your customers with an online version, chances are you might loose your customers to someone who does.

NoBordersMagazine’s customers desired an online version of our preexisting city guides. They wanted to be able to read them on their mobile phones or tablets, or read them on their laptops while sitting in a café at their destination. No printing, no folding – smart and easy, a simple and modern solution.

The solution was a modern and user-friendly app from Triptale

For a easy, user-friendly and modern solution – NoBordersMagazine came to Triptale. Together, the decision to create a simple and sleek app was made, as it is the best solution for the city guides and a natural evolution – turning print into app.

The app should be represented of all that NoBordersMagazine has to offer; a travel magazine filled with photos, videos, vintage maps and small guides for the destination. Emphasis on guides created by the local – with high focus on the words and photos taken by the locals set in the spotlight for the city guide and magazine app.

The collaboration between Triptale and NoBordersMagazine was easy

NoBordersMagazine already had created much of their content and listed the places that were included in their city guides. The problem was that all their material was in Italian. What was missing was photos and translations in English. Triptale and NoBordersMagazine went out together for a photoshoot, shooting photos of the places that the Magazine featured, places included in the city, as well as translated all the content to English – Making it more user-friendly and applicable for a broader target group.

A few days later, after some developing, testing and designing – Triptale proudly presented the app to NoBordersMagazine. The app was then sent forward to Apple, awaiting a thumbs up to be featured in their app store.

Features and Integrations

The Triptale team prides on being professional and experienced in creating beautiful apps for the travel and tourism industry – with NoBordersMagazine being no exception there of.

As an extra part of our services, and proof of how Triptale is always willing to go the extra mile – the Triptale team came up with an idea for the NoBordersMagazine app. The idea was to include a QR code on the back of their printed catalogue and city guides. As their printed catalogue is still sold with great popularity at all their features destinations, this would include a free marketing strategy for their newly created app solutions. The printed city guide would there for let the readers download the app right away with a QR reader app. NoBordersMagazine was thrilled with the idea and happy to gain both an app and great service from Triptale.

Only a few months after, the Inside Milano city app was published on App Store and available for free for iPhone users!

Was it easy? The collaboration was simple, straight forward and beneficial for both parties.
